Thug accused of raping a woman less than 24 hours after getting out of jail granted bail and attacks again

A THUG accused of raping a woman less than 24 hours after getting out of jail was granted bail - then attacked her again just 18 minutes later, a court has heard.

Police say the 28-year-old, who can't be named for legal reasons, raped the woman the day after being released from a 14-month prison stint.

He was arrested later that day but bailed on condition he not go within 10 metres of the woman or within 200 metres of her home.

But it is alleged he walked straight from the police station to her home, tricked his way in, and attacked her.
It is alleged he bit part of her ear off, and that he told police he'd wanted to "take a chomp out of her head" and planned to "finish her off".

He applied for bail again, but a magistrate refused it.

The man last week told the Melbourne Magistrates Court he "got out of jail with good intentions".

The court heard the pair had been in a sexual relationship and she had picked him up from prison. But a family violence order was in place to protect her from his violence.

Detective Senior Constable Benjamin Hodson told the court the man had an "aggressive demeanour and propensity for violence".

"Police especially have concerns for the safety of the victim, who has expressed to police that she is very fearful of him," he said.

"There have been three previous family violence reports since February 2012 where the accused has breached an intervention order and assaulted the victim," he said.

The court heard that while being interviewed, the man asked to see photos of her injuries to "cheer himself up".

On being told he was to be charged with a string of offences, he allegedly flew into a wild rage. He faces charges including assault and causing damage; police are investigating the rape claims.

The man told the court he never meant to hurt anyone, and the sex was consensual.

"After 14 months in prison, I'm not going to lie: I was very interested in making love," he said. "I'm not a sex offender. That's not my field."

Once again another example of how the legal system (deliberately) fails the masses.
