NBN too slow to stream low resolution video?

Currently in Australia there is a spate of television messages that advertise the NBN Co (National Broadband Network Corporation), which is an Australian government owned corporation, where it is a monopoly in providing the broadband service.

One rule that could be applied is that if a (government) product or service is advertised on television, it's got to be dodgy.

Many Australian government sponsored or owned projects are a failure from many levels, where one of the more significant ones, is this minute detail called budget, which is blown way above initial project funding where the extra funds are ripped from the tax payers pool, in essentially what we call a 'money for mates' scam.

While this action could fall under the label of 'failure of government', realistically it's not a 'failure' as this is how it's been planned from the start.

Many falsified tender processes have resulted in ripping off hard working 'mums and dads' taxes going to the 'buddies' of those in government to substandard projects, where if this type of work was carried out in the 'commercial' world those businesses would no longer exist and more importantly the people in charge of the failed projects would not be employable.

In the world of 'government' the story is quite different where the people in charge of the 'failures' are supported by those in government and move on to other projects ripping off the Australian tax slaves even more.

This is the culture of the people in the Australian government, which in reality works against the good people of Australia.

Australia's broadband is already out of date and a huge failure, where by being a monopoly  people are forced to use the substandard product.

As Google's advertisement says:

 "... and when the NBN is working well enough to support a good video stream!"

The video resolution for the website mentioned within the illustration is 480x360, where at 30fps would require a bitrate of 0.520Mbps, for the video component only.

In terms of 'internet' speeds Australia is literally third world, where gypsies in Romania have quicker 'net access.

Dutch bank ING pays $1.2b fine after admitting to money laundering

 

 

Amsterdam | Dutch bank ING Groep admitted criminals had been able to launder money through its accounts on Tuesday and agreed to pay €775 million ($1.3 billion) to settle the case.

"The shortcomings identified resulted in clients having been able to use their bank accounts for money laundering practices for years", ING said in a statement, after signing one the largest ever such settlements in the Netherlands.

Dutch financial crime prosecutors said ING had violated laws on preventing money laundering and financing terrorism "structurally and for years" by not properly vetting the beneficial owners of client accounts and by not noticing unusual transactions through them.

ING, the Netherlands' largest financial services provider, said it was impossible to estimate how much money was laundered through its accounts, but lead prosecutor Margreet Frohberg told Reuters "hundreds of millions of euros" were involved.

The fine is not ING's first for failing to prevent illegal transactions. In 2012 it paid a penalty of $US619 million ($860 million) for facilitating billions of dollars worth of payments through the US banking system on behalf of Cuban and Iranian clients.

In the latest case, which had led to questions from regulators in the United States, Dutch prosecutors said they had begun their investigation in 2016 after realising that a pattern of violations was a signal of deeper underlying problems at ING.

They cited four examples where ING accounts were used for crime, most notably for bribes paid by telecommunications company VEON, formerly VimpelCom, in Uzbekistan. VEON settled US and Dutch charges for $US835 million in 2016.

"We had various ongoing criminal investigations and ING bank accounts cropped up repeatedly", Frohberg said in a telephone interview. "Since 2008, ING was repeatedly warned, but it failed to take sufficient measures to stop the practice."

Unacceptable mistakes

While ING's chief executive Ralph Hamers said no individual at the bank was found to be responsible for the failures, or had personally benefited, it had taken measures against around 10 employees, varying from dismissals to clawing back bonuses.

"We have made unacceptable mistakes" Hamers told reporters. "This calls for drastic measures, which we have taken."

Hamers denied any relation between the latest case and the earlier US penalty. "You can't simply draw a line from that to this", he said. "Which is not to say that we have done things right here."
ING has since improved its procedures for admitting and vetting clients, Hamers said, while the executive board has agreed to forgo a bonus for 2018.

Of the settlement, €675 million was as a fine and €100 million as the return of illicit gains, prosecutors said.

ING, which expects no further penalties in the case, said it had not taken a provision ahead of the settlement, adding it will book the fine in the third quarter.

"The substantial fine was something that was expected", KBC Securities analyst Jason Kalamboussis wrote in a note. "With the fine issue behind, ING can look forward."

Victoria Police concealed one of their own, child rapist Robert William Gommeson

I'm going to tell you a horror story tonight—a real life nightmare—about a five-year-old girl raped, with a gun held to her head, raped almost daily by her stepfather, to the extent that when she was nine and started to bleed her grandmother took her to the doctor thinking she was starting her period early. She wasn't; she was having a miscarriage. She was nine years old. Her grandmother told her to forget about it and not tell anybody. The little girl's mother also knew about the abuse and did nothing. The rapes went on and on for years.

It gets worse, if that's possible. When she was 15 her grandfather took her to the police to report the years of abuse, and nothing happened. You see, that little girl's attacker was a Victorian policeman who worked at Hastings police station. During his 12 years in the force Victoria Police failed to act on numerous complaints against him of sexually abusing children in country Victoria. During that time in uniform, he defiled at least nine children, including three stepchildren—kids aged between five and 10—and used his uniform to snare more victims.

He asked one little boy if he wanted to see inside a police station. He took him there and raped him on a bed inside the building. A young girl dutifully went to the police station for help after losing track of her mother at a local festival. The copper told the child, 'I'll look after you'. Then he took her out the back into a divvy van and forced her to perform oral sex on him.

But it was his stepdaughter who suffered the most. She naively thought that when she started primary school in Tyabb she would be safe. As she said in the victim impact statement years later:

The first time he took me out of school during the day he informed the teacher that I had a dentist appointment. He would show up in his police uniform, police car including his police revolver. All the kids thought it was cool. All I could think about was this is not going to end well. I did not get to the dentist that day. I was taken home where I was abused, raped and threatened to be killed with his police revolver which was pointed at my head. He got off on pretending to kill me more than the sex I think, as it soon became his habit to have the gun resting on my temple. I was then made to have a shower and redress for school and I would be dropped off like a piece of meat at the front gates to walk back to the office and then on to class. This became a regular occurrence and a ritual for nearly 4 years of my primary school. I was always being picked up in the cop car or divvy van. Sometimes we would not head back to the house but to the tennis courts. No one questioned why a cop car would be there. Actually, no one questioned anything as to why I was seeing so many doctors or dentists.

One boy who was sexually abused by the policeman in 1979 told his mother, and she reported the abuse to the cop's colleagues. She was persuaded, like other parents, not to press charges. The next day the police went to the woman's house and told her 'the offender wouldn't be in the police force anymore and would be moved away'. And that's what happened. The now ex-cop went to New South Wales where he abused more children over the next four years. For those crimes he was arrested in New South Wales in 2012 and sentenced to 17 years jail, with a non-parole period of 12 years. He was then extradited to Melbourne and last year was sentenced to 19 years behind bars, with a minimum of 15.

But there is yet another aspect to this horror story. When this child rapist was sentenced, the County Court judge suppressed his name, supposedly to protect the identity of his victims, even though Bianca Hall from Fairfax formally requested it be lifted, even though three of his victims asked the court to name him because they believed more victims would come forward if they knew it was him and he was behind bars, and even though that five-year-old stepdaughter is now 45. The community deserves to know the name of this man, whose stepdaughter has accurately described as a 'monster'. With her permission, I will name him tonight. This monster, protected for years by Victoria Police, is Robert William Gommeson, now aged 67. I hope that naming him will bring some closure for some of his victims.

I will never forget the words of his stepdaughter, who said:

There were many times I prayed that I would not wake up in the morning. That somehow during the night my heart would just stop beating and all the hurt and suffering would be over. But it did not. I would hope and pray that I would not have a visitor come into my room and I would be saved from one night of terror and torture.

That girl has built an adult life for herself, and has a family of her own now. She approached me recently and asked me to name the stepfather who stole her childhood and her siblings' innocence, as well as the innocence of those other kids. That is why I have named Robert William Gommeson, commonly known as 'Bob', the ever-friendly neighbourhood cop. And I'm going to name the brave stepdaughter too—her name is Tracey May; another victim is Martin Raby—because tonight they are here in the gallery to hear publicly mentioned for the first time the name of a piece of scum who destroyed their childhood but failed in the end to ruin their rebuilt adult lives.

I say tonight: may Gommeson rot and die in jail. Tracey and Martin, I salute you. The community thanks you for your bravery and for your determination.

Exposé banned on how hackable credit card tech is

With the invention of new technology into the consumer market corporations may produce inferior products that are heavily dependent on a short TTM (Time To Market) in order to gain an advantage of the accolade of being the first company to put whatever into the consumer world.

Many people have cheated in presenting a product, which was not quite ready to be released to the market.

In the world of computing, Mr. William Gates the Third co-founder of Microsoft used deception to present his DOS (Disk Operating System) as a fully functioning operating system.

A company founded on deception, that's a reassuring thought.

In Australia current focus is on the data within the My Health Record database, where the government assures the general population that the data is safe and secure where this in reality is false information stated by the people in government.

Victoria Police had an IT system that was 25 years old, or one generation in human years, where in computing terms (Moore's law) it's many generations.

This deliberately outdated technology allowed hundreds of police personnel to access the general population's records when there was no legal requirement to so do, without any prosecution for 'data breach'.

Financial services corporations released their products where transactions could occur wirelessly via a 'tap' through the use of RFID technology.

There are people who are in the business of disassembling technology introduced into the consumer market, which is totally different from government or military technology, where these people report on how safe or secure the tech is.

This year is the 10th anniversary when the Discovery Channel produced a documentary on how hackable the credit cards are with their RFID chips.

Unfortunately the episode was never aired to the general population, as it was stopped by the financial services corporations American Express, VISA, Discover and 'everybody else'.

In effect the banks stopped an exposé on how easily hackable  their cards were, where their customers have been deliberately put at risk.

While the encryption technology may have matured since 2008, so has the 'hacking' technology, something that is still deliberately kept from the customers.

Even with this fundamentally flawed technology, the banks now are promoting payments via wireless technology from (easily hackable) smart phones, and now a 'smart ring' that you can put on your finger,  deliberately hiding from their customers the real possibility of  data theft, i.e. numbers from a bank account linked to your person's name.

With every new technology, you can almost never trust the marketing spiel from the corporations.

The Chronicles of Frankie - Do not resent

A fairly well known personality (or seven) on social media, from South Australia by the name of Frankie Vazquez, has recently posted one of his latest works of art.

The masterpiece of artwork is most likely due to the freeman(?) movement or people who are under the assumption, that if a person from a (government) institution writes a letter to you, when you put a 'do not consent' label or other variation, probably in relation to a fine or bill, the 'problem' magically goes away.

So, here's the problem in Frankie's case.

Frankie has entered into a 'contract' with Centrelink in order to receive payments in the form of benefits, as we should know from a pool collected from taxpayers for those who are unemployed or need society to care for them as a result of health or other issues.

At the end of every financial year the Centrelink benefits recipient obtains an Income Statement from Australia's capital, Canberra.

This is a letter that you would want to keep, a letter that is to your benefit that holds significant weight with regards to your financial dealings in this country.

Frankie's response to this letter, putting aside the "resend" error, was that:

"WE DO NOT CONSENT TO CONTRACT WITH YOU"

Therefore Frankie's Centrelink benefits must stop upon the return of this letter.

Do you really want to be like Frankie?
