Cheney defends 'terror' war policies

(Warmonger Cheney, laughing at you)

US Vice President Dick Cheney has defended controversial interrogation methods used in the US "war on terror".

He also said he was not sure if al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden was still alive. ( So your Multi Billion Dollar Military campaigne cannot fine ONE person??? You should be DISMISSED!!!)

In an interview one month before his eight-year term in office ends, Cheney rejected accusations that the treatment of terror suspects amounted to torture and violated US law, saying the administration's policies helped prevent another terrorist strike on the country.

"Given the kind of conflict we're faced with today, we find ourselves in a situation where I believe you need strong executive leadership. What we did in this administration is to exert that kind of authority," Cheney told Fox News.

Cheney said the administration of President George W Bush had acted appropriately in its "war on terror" after the September 11, 2001 attacks and had followed legal precedent, citing previous presidents, including Abraham Lincoln during the US civil war and Franklin Roosevelt during World War II.

"There's ample precedent for it," he said, saying Bush had not gone as far as Lincoln and Roosevelt in using his wartime authority.

At a time of war, he said the president's responsibilities include collecting intelligence, "and therefore I think you're fully justified in setting up a terror surveillance program to be able to intercept the communications of people who are communicating with terrorists outside the United States".

"I think you can have a robust interrogation program with respect to high value detainees," Cheney said.

"Now, those are all steps we took that I believe the president was fully authorised in taking, and provided invaluable intelligence, which has been the key to our ability to defeat al-Qaeda over these last seven years."

The administration has been sharply criticised at home and abroad over its treatment of terror suspects, including the use of harsh interrogation techniques widely condemned as torture, detaining suspects without charge at the Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba and running an unwarranted domestic surveillance programs.

Cheney also said he was unsure if bin Laden was still living.

"I don't know and I'm guessing he is," Cheney said when asked if the world's most wanted man was alive.

"We've had certain pieces of evidence become available from time to time, there'll be a photograph released or something that allows the intelligence community to judge that he is still alive."

Cheney said the administration had dealt major setbacks to bin Laden's al-Qaeda network and still hoped to capture him.

"He's been holed up in a way where he's not even been communicating. There are questions about whether he's even running the operation. But we have had major success against the organisation," Cheney said.

"Capturing Osama bin Laden is something clearly we'd love to do. There are 30 days left."

(What happens after that??? !!! ??? He (Osama) get a GET OUT OF JAIL FREE CARD ???)

Bin Laden has claimed responsibility for the September 11 attacks against New York and Washington that killed nearly 3,000 people and prompted the US-led invasion of Afghanistan. US officials believe bin Laden is holed up near the rugged Afghanistan-Pakistan border.

(THE US has satellites that can read the numberplates of Trucks in the desert, but no one can find a 6ft 4" person on a camel ??? !!! ??? Looks like the American Public has been duped, yet again !!!

Maybe it is due to the Rooservelt Education System, that creates Lemmings with an average mental capacity of a 13 year old.)

Despite a massive manhunt and a $US25 million ($A36.62 million) bounty on his head, he has evaded capture and has regularly taunted the United States and its allies through warnings issued over the Internet.

Cheney also defended his view of sweeping presidential authority and the legal role of his own office, dismissing comments from his successor, vice president-elect Joseph Biden, who has said Cheney had overstepped his constitutional role.

"If he wants to diminish the office of the vice president, that's obviously his call," Cheney said.

"President-elect Obama will decide what he wants in a vice president and apparently, from the way they're talking about it, he does not expect him to have as consequential a role as I have had during my time."

Cheney also acknowledged that he had opposed Bush's decision to fire former defence secretary Donald Rumsfeld in 2006.

"I did disagree with the decision," Cheney said. "The president doesn't always take my advice."

Asked about the administration's dismal approval ratings, Cheney said history would vindicate him and Bush.

And regarding Iran's nuclear ambitions, asked if he believed diplomacy could "solve this", Cheney answered: "Ah, that's the policy the administration. And I support the policy of the administration.

"I hope it can. That's clearly what we've tried."

Dick Cheney and HIS Cronies are responsible for INVADING ANOTHER COUNTRY, and the SLAUGHTER of INNOCENT CIVILIANS.

Qld pedophile swam with boy: police

A notorious pedophile has allegedly breached the conditions of his release by swimming in a waterhole with a 13-year-old boy.

Mark Anthony Foy, 47, was taken into custody on Thursday night after allegedly breaching his supervision order the previous day.

Documents filed in the Supreme Court in Brisbane allege Foy was swimming in a disused quarry at Chuwar, west of Brisbane, when he was spotted by police.

The documents show police had chanced upon him when they noticed his empty car at the entrance to the quarry.

A registration check revealed it was Foy's, who was flagged as a person of interest, the documents state.

It's alleged police walked down to the water where they found Foy swimming and chatting with two boys aged 16 and 13.

Under the conditions of his community-based supervision order, Foy is forbidden from having contact with children under 16.

He briefly appeared in the Supreme Court on Friday and was remanded in custody until a hearing into the alleged breach can take place.

No date has yet been set for the hearing.

It is the third time Foy has been returned to custody since he was released from prison on a Dangerous Prisoners (Sexual Offenders) Act supervision order in January 2005.

He returned to jail in March 2007 after being caught selling morphine to an undercover police officer and then spitting in his face, and again in November that year for talking to two children aged 12 and 14.

Foy served four and a half years' jail for offences against nine children aged between six and 12.

His supervision order does not expire until January 2015.

Another CLEAR EXAMPLE of how the Australian Law system Fails to protect children, and technically is in support of the CRIMINAL. It just let out a pedophile into the community.

Smacking a child will be against the law soon, but a letting out a sexual predator to molest children WILL / IS supported by the law.

IN THE GOVERNMENT WE TRUST OUR CHILDREN, JUST LIKE THE STOLEN GENERATIONS.

Bush shoe attacker to face court

The trial of Muntazer al-Zaidi, the Iraqi man who hurled his shoes at US President George W Bush, will start on December 31, the judge investigating his case says.

Zaidi could face up to 15 years in jail.

"The investigation phase is over and the case has been transferred to the Central Criminal Court," investigating judge Dhiya al-Kenani told AFP on Monday.

"The trial will start on Wednesday, December 31."

The journalist stands accused of "aggression against a foreign head of state during an official visit," an offence that carries a prison term of between five and 15 years under Iraqi law.

But the court could convict him of the lesser charge of an "attempted aggression" which carries a prison term of one to five years.

His lawyer had asked that the case against Zaidi be transferred from the central criminal court, which handles terrorism cases, to an ordinary tribunal but the judge refused.

Zaidi, 29, became a hero to many when he threw his shoes at Bush during the US president's surprise visit to Iraq on December 14, an action considered a grave insult in the Arab world.

The journalist for private Iraqi television station Al-Baghdadia was wrestled to the ground by security guards and is planning to sue over injuries caused, his lawyer Dhiya al-Saadi said on Sunday.

"There are bruises on his body. He has lost a tooth in his upper jaw, and his left eye is bloodshot," the lawyer said, adding that the list of injuries is backed up by medical checks.

Zaidi's actions were hailed by many in the Arab world who considered it an ideal parting gift to a deeply unpopular Bush, who ordered the 2003 invasion of Iraq that triggered years of deadly insurgency and sectarian conflict.

His family has been demonstrating in a park near the central Baghdad government compound to demand his release from custody.

One of the GREATEST COMEDIES of Modern Times is the Bush Administration, at the expense of the Liberties of Americans, later the Western World.

There was NO CRAZED GUNMAN as with John Fitzgerald Kennedy or Abraham Lincoln, just a Muppet throwing a shoe.

Bush, and his Nazi supporting grandfather, have committed more crimes against humanity than JFK or Abe, but there has been no 'retard' to assassinate him.

One of the reasons JFK was assassinated was because the wanted to bring back the "GREEN BACK", something the financiers could NOT let happen.

AFL player facing charges over 'rampage'

(Illustration: Another Footballer who qualifies for the Special Olympics).

Hawthorn ruckman Brent Renouf is expected to be charged with criminal damage offences after being arrested by police over the weekend.
The 20-year-old premiership player allegedly leapt onto the boot of a car parked on Burwood Rd, Hawthorn near the Geebung Polo Club, the Herald-Sun reports.
Police confirmed the man was apprehended by police on nearby Henry St at around 1am Sunday.
A spokeswoman told the Herald Sun the player would be charged on summons.
Renouf, who played seven games in his debut season in 2008 including the grand final victory over Geelong, has accepted full responsibility for the incident and will pay for all damages incurred.
A second Hawthorn player was a bystander to the incident and has been cleared of any involvement.
"Brent understands that he made some poor choices in relation to alcohol and social behaviour," Hawthorn football operations general manager Mark Evans said.
"Brent will personally meet the cost of damage to the vehicles.
"Hawthorn Football Club players and staff take their social and community responsibility very seriously and no-one is more disappointed than the player himself at his actions."
Renouf's likely to face further sanctions from the club after meeting with Hawthorn management and the leadership group.
The Geebung Polo Club is a favoured venue for AFL stars and was in the spotlight during the Collingwood drink-drive scandal earlier this year.
Heath Shaw ploughed into two cars after leaving the hotel with a .144 blood-alcohol limit and teammate Alan Didak was suspended by the 'Pies after lying about being in the car at the time of the accident.
This latest scandal will not be welcomed by the AFL, which has managed to generate some positive publicity about Ben Cousins' comeback after his headline-grabbing fall from grace.
Cousins returned to the spotlight last week to announce his signing with Richmond — and also to distance himself from alleged underworld figure Angelo Venditti.

Govt plans to halve homeless Australians

The federal government is aiming to halve the number of homeless Australians and accommodate all those sleeping rough under an ambitious new plan.

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd on Sunday launched the government's White Paper in Sydney, which commits $1.2 billion over four years to building new housing and increasing services to prevent homelessness.
The funding is the first stage in a plan to halve homelessness and boost accommodation by 2020, and comes on top of the government's $6.1 billion affordable housing program.
The Commonwealth will fund $800 million of the new program, and the states $400 million.
"A country like this should not have this problem," Mr Rudd said at the launch.
"It's time we had a decent solution to this problem that has been around for a long time."
Every night in Australia, 105,000 people are homeless. About 16,000 of those sleep rough on the streets, Mr Rudd said.
"As a nation we can do a lot better than that," Mr Rudd said.

Another empty promise (???) just like:
the Hawke Government's " No child shall live in poverty"
Keating's : "Australia the smart country"

Update: Crisis 'could impede homeless plan' : Might be just the ticket the Government was looking for to get out of this one.

PART SOLUTION: Mr. KRudd How about we do NOT import 1000 people per week into Victoria, as it is quite clear that we cannot afford to SUSTAIN these people with our current infrastructure with WATER, PUBLIC TRANSPORT and CURRENT ROADS.

Ship 'attacked' as China mulls navy use

Thirty Chinese sailors were missing after pirates attacked their China-owned ship in waters near Somalia on Wednesday, the official Xinhua news agency reported.

Pirates attacked the vessel, owned by China Communications Construction Co., in the Gulf of Aden at 12:43 pm Beijing time (0443 GMT), Xinhua said.

"Thirty Chinese sailors were aboard the ship, 'Zhenhua 4'," the news agency reported."

"The company has lost contact with the sailors and their conditions are unknown."

The report came as China considered sending warships to fight piracy off Somalia, state media said, announcing what would be an unprecedented display of naval power far from its shores.

"China is seriously considering sending naval ships to the Gulf of Aden and waters off the Somali coast for escorting operations in the near future," Vice-Foreign Minister He Yafei was quoted as saying in New York by the Chinese state-run Xinhua news agency on Wednesday.

This would be the first time in modern history that the nation's navy carried out a mission outside Chinese waters, according to Shen Shishun, an expert with the Chinese Institute of International Studies, a government think tank.

He Yafei was speaking at a ministerial meeting of the UN Security Council - of which China is a permanent member - which on Tuesday unanimously authorised international land operations against armed pirates sheltering in Somalia.

Pirates have carried out more than 100 attacks in the key shipping lanes of the Gulf of Aden, located between the south of Yemen and the north of Somalia, and the Indian Ocean east of Somalia since the start of this year.

Last month, they captured the world's attention when they hijacked the Saudi-owned super-tanker Sirius Star, carrying two million barrels of crude oil, and demanded a $US25 million ($A35.94 million) ransom for the boat and its crew.

It is one of about 17 ships, including a Chinese vessel, in pirate hands.

Vice-Foreign Minister He also met Somalia's foreign minister, Ali Ahmed Jama, on the sidelines of the meeting to raise concerns over the 17 Chinese nationals currently in the hands of the pirates, Xinhua reported.

Pratt prosecution a 'vendetta': court

Lawyers for Richard Pratt have demanded consumer watchdog boss Graeme Samuel be called before court to explain his "personal vendetta" against the cardboard king.

Robert Richter QC on Tuesday accused Mr Samuel, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) chairman, of conducing a vendetta by pushing for Pratt to be criminally prosecuted.

Mr Richter demanded that prosecutors call Mr Samuel to a pre-trial hearing at the Federal Court to explain why he wanted the Visy Industries chairman prosecuted.

His comments drew an angry response from prosecutor Mark Dean SC who said it was not the job of the prosecution to call witnesses to satisfy Mr Richter's "lust and baseless conspiracy theories".

The fiery exchange came on day seven of the pre-trial Federal Court hearing to determine what evidence can be used in a criminal prosecution of Pratt, who is charged with misleading the ACCC.

Mr Richter asked why Mr Samuel backed down from an agreement made last year with Pratt in which they agreed a statement of facts used in a civil prosecution could not be used in any other proceeding.

"Mr Samuel is the only one who can give an explanation of what now appears to be a personal vendetta," he said.

"The application is that if my learned friends refuse to call Mr Samuel, we say your honour can call Mr Samuel.

"Could I foreshadow it will be our submission that this has been a shabby and deceitful case."

Mr Richter invited Justice Donnell Ryan to "draw inferences" against the prosecution if Mr Samuel was not called.

Justice Ryan said he would not be calling Mr Samuel to give evidence.

Prosecutor Mark Dean SC said the decision to prosecute Pratt came from members of the commission.

"It is not our job to serve up Mr Samuel to satisfy Mr Richter's lust and baseless conspiracy theories," Mr Dean said.

"There is no suggestion that supports the argument that after that point Mr Samuel actively drove the matter himself."

It is alleged Pratt misled the ACCC at a hearing in 2005 when he denied a conversation he allegedly had about price fixing with Amcor chief executive Russell Jones in 2001.

The hearing continues on Wednesday.

Victoria Multicultural Awards : Discriminatory

On Tuesday, 16th of December, 2008 at Government House in Melbourne, an Awards ceremony was held in recognition of members of the community who work tirelessly within the vast multicultural society.

Such a great event, naturally requires a prospectus/booklet to be published promoting such an event. In this booklet there is no mention of the names of any of the key politicians who attended.
a disgrace considering the profile of the event.

What is really more concerning is the policies the individual multicultural groups have to adhere to in order to gain "government grants".
A directive has been given by the various Melbourne's City Councils, that a multicultural group will receive government funds IF it organises events that include the Muslim Community.

Clearly discriminatory / racist towards other sections of the community. Nothing new really here. A standard tactic employed by bureaucrats, kosher on the outside....

Only not so long ago the government officially employed a "White Australia" policy (maybe Baz Luhrmann should make a film ( mockumentary) about this too ?? !! ?? See earlier post ), maybe something the government would say "it never happened". These people are still in politics today.

We all know how racial intolerance is politically incorrect.

Luhrmann's Australia a 'disaster': Greer

Feminist Germaine Greer has savaged Baz Luhrmann's outback epic Australia, branding it a "disaster".

Joining a chorus of critics who have panned the movie, starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman, Greer picks apart its storyline and accuses Luhrmann of glossing over the exploitation of Aboriginal workers.

She describes the film as a "fraudulent and misleading fantasy" designed to promote the federal government's policy of reconciliation.

Writing in Britain's Guardian newspaper, Greer picks apart the film's plot and points out what she claims are several historical inaccuracies about how Aborigines were treated in 1939, when the film was set.

"The scale of the disaster that is Baz Luhrmann's Australia is gradually becoming apparent," Greer wrote in The Guardian newspaper.

Greer likens the love story between Jackman and Kidman's characters to one out of a Mills & Boon romance novel and describe's the film's plot as "fatuous".

On the film's Aboriginal characters, Greer says the film's "greatest asset" is Brandon Walters, a 12-year-old Aboriginal boy who plays Nullah.

However, she describes as "unforgivable" Luhrmann's decision to have Nullah speak "in a cutesified stage version of pidgin".

Greer accuses Luhrmann of using acclaimed Aboriginal actor David Gulpilil's character King George as "a cigar-store Indian, standing on one leg, the other foot propped up against his knee, silhouetted against the skyline, spar and spear-thrower in hand".

"To the few viewers who will know that this motif has been used repeatedly as a trademark, it does seem that Luhrmann is making a tasteless joke," she said.

Greer also criticises Luhrmann for not choosing to depict how Aboriginal workers on the vast outback cattle property where the film is set would have lived in a collection of "filthy" humpies without being paid any money for their work.

Students to be taught there isn't a God

Victorian state primary school students will soon be able to take religious education classes which teach there is no evidence God exists.

The Humanist Society of Victoria has developed a curriculum for primary pupils that the state government accreditation body says it intends to approve, The Sunday Age newspaper reported.

Accredited volunteers will be able to teach their philosophy in the class time allotted for religious instruction, the newspaper said.

As with lessons delivered by faith groups, parents will be able to request that their children do not participate.

"Atheistical parents will be pleased to hear that humanistic courses of ethics will soon be available in some state schools," Victorian Humanist Society president Stephen Stuart said.

The society does not consider itself to be a religious organisation and believes ethics have "no necessary connection with religion".

Humanists believe people are responsible for their own destiny and reject the notion of a supernatural force or God.

Top investors 'duped in pyramid scheme'

New York broker Bernard Madoff's alleged giant pyramid scheme duped some of the world's smartest investors, reports have suggested, adding to questions about why the scam wasn't uncovered earlier.

Evidence emerged that Madoff's alleged multi-billion-dollar fraud stretched from Tokyo to Europe to top US investors, all of them apparently unaware until the broker's arrest last Thursday that they were being conned.

Prosecutors allege that Madoff, a decades-long veteran of Wall Street and pillar of the US financial community, confessed to losing at least $75 billion in the so-called Ponzi scheme, or pyramid fraud.

US newspapers detailed how Madoff, 70, traded on his impeccable reputation and access to exclusive country clubs to cultivate A-list investment clients including big banks, hedge funds and individuals.

The Securities and Exchange Commission alleges he delivered consistently strong returns by secretly using the principal from new investors to pay out to other investors.

As long as he could attract new investors the alleged scheme worked.

The plot appears to have unraveled when clients asked to withdraw their principal — as they have been doing from hedge funds worldwide — only to discover that Madoff's seemingly brimming coffers were empty.

According to The Wall Street Journal, investors facing losses include French bank BNP Paribas, Tokyo-based Nomura Holdings and Zurich's Neue Privat Bank.

Spanish newspapers reported that a fund run by leading bank Santander was heavily exposed and that investors in Spain risk losing some $4.5 billion.

Swiss bankers face losses of up to $7.5 billion, Geneva's Le Temps newspaper said.

The report said that Union Bancaire Privee, a major asset management institution specializing in hedge funds, could be exposed to the tune of $1.5 billion.

UBP refused to comment on the report, which said that 90 percent of fund management companies operating in Geneva invested in Madoff products.

Top-drawer US investors who were taken in included the former owner of the Philadelphia Eagles American football team Norman Braman, according to news reports.

Hedge funds are likely to take an especially big hit because Madoff was handling money for several companies raising money for such funds, the Journal said.

"I'm wiped out," the Journal quoted Sandra Manzke, chairman of one such company, Maxam Capital Management, as saying after reporting $425 million in losses.

The New York Times reported that a hedge fund advisory firm, Fairfield Greenwich Group, had invested $11 billion with Madoff.

As federal investigators poured over the books at Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC, the Times highlighted the apparent lack of oversight through the years of what appears set to be Wall Street's record-sized fraud.

Despite Madoff's amazingly high and consistent returns and the fact that a relatively unknown accounting firm was doing his audits, the Securities and Exchange Commission "appears to have been completely surprised,"(RUBBISH!!!) the Times wrote.

"Despite these and other red flags, hedge fund companies kept promoting Mr Madoff's funds to other funds and individuals," the Times wrote.

Among those recruiting investors on Madoff's behalf, the Times reported, were Japan's Nomura.

The debacle has "swept up some of the most prominent and wealthy Americans, along with many people who thought they were embarking on a comfortable retirement and have now been left destitute," the Journal quoted a lawyer for another victim, Milberg LLP, as saying.

US government reveals Multiple Kill Vehicle

The US government has released video of its latest weapon that looks and moves like the murderous Skynet flying droids from the Terminator movie series — and the name is just as menacing.

The Multiple Kill Vehicle (MKV) robot, built by defence contractor Lockheed Martin, is designed to be mounted to a carrier missile shot into space to take out enemy nuclear missiles.

The video shows the MKV using small rockets to hover and track left and right inside a special test facility at Edwards Air Force Base.

According to the Missile Defence Agency, during a ballistic missile attack a carrier with a cargo of small kill vehicles get in the way of any enemy missiles.

"Using tracking data from the Ballistic Missile Defence System and its own seeker, the carrier vehicle will dispense and guide the kill vehicles to destroy any warheads or countermeasures," a press release from the MDA stated.

Lockheed-Martin rival contractor Raytheon is also developing its own MKV.

The MKV is just a small piece in the puzzle that makes up the US's controversial missile defence shield, referred to as "Star Wars" when first announced by the Reagan administration in the 1980s at the height of the Cold War.

What began as the Strategic Defence Initiative in 1983 became the Ballistic Missile Defence Organisation in 1993 before being renamed the Missile Defence Agency in 2002.

President-elect Barack Obama has publically criticised the highly complex program, which will cost an estimated A$80.6 billion between 2004 and 2009, saying he would not "weaponise space".

Court orders Qantas to pay $20m

The Federal Court of Australia has ordered national carrier Qantas Airways Ltd to pay $20 million in pecuniary penalties for breaching the price-fixing provisions of the Trade Practices Act.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) instituted proceedings in October 2008 alleging Qantas had reached an understanding with other international airlines in relation to the imposition of fuel surcharges on air cargo across its global networks between 2002 and early 2006.

The ACCC said Qantas admitted to making and giving effect to the understanding, repeatedly exchanging assurances among airlines in the implementation of fuel surcharge increases and reaching local agreements in certain Asian countries collectively.

ACCC chairman Graeme Samuel said the penalty reflected the seriousness of the contraventions and Qantas' large share of the market.

"Cartels - particularly those that are engaged in by large businesses with broad application over a period of time - have a significant effect on consumers," Mr Samuel said.

"They are an unseen fraud on the community that must be uncovered and punished." (lets NOT just stop at one company, Mr. Samuel, TELSTRA has been named, and ASIC has all the relevant paperwork, and SLATER & GORDON has confirmed it is FRAUD! What more do you NEED ??? !!! ??? !!! )

He said Qantas had undertaken an exhaustive probe of the allegations after being made aware of the conduct.

Qantas has been restrained from engaging in similar conduct for three years and ordered to pay $200,000 towards the ACCC's costs.

The Federal Court also ordered British Airways PLC to pay $5 million for price fixing in relation to fuel surcharges applied to international carriage of air cargo between 2002 and early 2006.

British Airways has reached agreement on the penalties after admitted it arrived at an illegal understanding with Lufthansa on fuel surcharges on some of their international air cargo services.

Mr Samuel said the case should send a strong message to cartels.

"That the ACCC will not relent in its pursuit and the bringing to account of those who engage in illegal behaviour," he said.

"There are no safe havens for illegal cartel conduct.

The court also restrained British Airways from engaging in similar conduct for a period of five years and to pay $200,000 towards the ACCC's costs.

In another matter regarding corporate fraud, Telstra is responsible for a fraud that is worth approximately $10 million per year, BUT all the relevant channels WIPE their hands clean, as at the time Telstra was government owned, and NO GOVERNMENT wishes to implicate itself.

Australia Prison Island 101 - Net Censorship

Here we have a classic example of how Internet Censorship DOES NOT WORK.

The site put into the browser is www.neis.com.au which is a program called NEIS (New Enterprise Incentive Scheme), for unemployed people, set up by the Australian Government.

The Australian government is pushing for Internet Censorship of ALL Australians, in order to stop downloading illegal content (as defined by who?), in order to protect us , and as a good measure throw in the words child porn, to get support.

Technically all content on the 'net can be classified as illegal.
Content on youtube is also illegal.

A statistic pull out from someone's hat suggests that 60% of internet traffic is peer to peer (i.e. file sharing - of movies / music??).

The fact is that the government is under intense pressure from Corporate giants MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America, and the Music Industry, as they CLAIM they are losing millions.

This is another example of how Corporations DICTATE political agendas.

Maybe the Government dos not want you to have a New Enterprise Incentive Scheme idea so you may succeed?

Or maybe it is working ???

Melbourne radio host found dead

Melbourne breakfast radio host Richard Marsland has been found dead.

Police said the 32-year-old Caulfield man's death is not thought to be suspicious.

Mr Marsland co-hosted on Triple M with Pete Helliar and Myf Warhurst after starting his radio career in Adelaide on the SAFM breakfast show with Greg Fleet, Marty Sheargold and James Brayshaw.

He also co-hosted a live, daily morning program AM Adelaide on Channel 7, Adelaide with the multiple-Logie award winning Anne Wills, and then hosted The Late Date Show nationally with Bessie Bardot on 2DayFM, 92.9 and FoxFM.

Austereo Melbourne general manager Ben Amarfio expressed the station's sadness at losing a talented and popular member of the Triple M team.

"Everyone he worked with was impressed with his professionalism and dedication and he had an extremely bright future ahead of him," Mr Amarfio said in a statement.

"We thought so highly of Richard that we were expanding his role in the show next year.

"Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this difficult time."

Again we have a report, that does not mention the cause of death. Since there are apparently no suspicious circumstances, it therefore looks like a suicide.

If we have a moderately high profile figure, who's cause of death was suicide, for whatever reasons, depression etc, then the public should be made aware, and help offered to others, as it has been done in the past with other 'celebrities'.

"This is a very sad and tragic case. Here's a mother who has brought up her children the best that she can," he said.

"Unfortunately Carl's in jail and her husband's in jail and that's obviously had a massive effect on her.

"With all the publicity that's gone on, that's probably contributed to her depression."

Williams was sentenced in May 2007 to a minimum of 35 years' jail for the murders of three Melbourne underworld rivals - father and son Lewis and Jason Moran and drug dealer Mark Mallia.

His father, and Ms Williams' estranged husband George Williams, 61, is also serving time, sentenced last year to four-and-a-half years' jail after pleading guilty to trafficking a commercial quantity of methylamphetamine.

Nothing new about this story EXCEPT that the report made by the general media is the allusion that she committed suicide by a pill overdose, which is incorrect.

A source closer to the actual event, stated that Barbara Williams hung herself.

There is NOTHING NEW about media deliberately withholding information from the public, for whatever reasons seen fit by the editors / politicians of the day.

Muslim school sacks teacher who wanted national anthem

A MUSLIM school has banned the national anthem at assemblies and sacked the teacher who asked for it to be played.

Australian International Islamic College teacher Pravin Chand was sacked last month, four months after his proposal for students to sing Advance Australia Fair was ruled to be against the "Islamic view and ethos".

A memo sent to teachers in July also announced "the singing of the anthem will be put on hold".

Yesterday, the Brisbane school denied it had banned the national anthem at assemblies.

The school chairman, Imam Abdul Quddoos Azhari, said students sang the national anthem "at every function, on every occasion".

But Mr Chand, whose version of events was backed by a second teacher, said he had not heard the anthem once this year.

"No national anthem, to me, means no integration with Australian kids," he said.

"Western values (at the school) are a no-no.

"It's like a paramilitary camp, that place."

Mr Chand's employment was terminated by the college board on the ground that he was "not fitting into the school's ethos".

Outgoing principal Azroul Liza Khalid, who started at the school in July, said she had not heard the anthem at assembly, although it was played on two or three other occasions.

Ms Khalid said she was told by a board member not to play the anthem, or any songs, on a Friday because it was a holy day. In July, school assembly day was moved from Monday to Friday.

The revelations follow a public outcry over a plan by the same Brisbane college to open another campus.

A vocal crowd draped in Australian flags and playing local rock anthems accused the college of promoting segregation, anti-Australian values and even terrorism.

Muslim leaders said the protests were "un-Australian" and claimed religion should not be used as a reason to protest against a school.

Local Education Minister Rod Welford's spokeswoman indicated it was unlikely a public school had ever banned the national anthem.

"It's not compulsory for schools to play the national anthem," she said.

"There's an expectation it would be played on formal occasions when the Australian flag is being raised."

A Catholic education spokesman said: "I'm absolutely confident that no Catholic school has ever banned the playing of the national anthem and never will".

The future of the proposed 60-pupil college at Carrara will be decided by Gold Coast City Council next year.

Victoria - on the move BACKWARDS 101

Motorists spend a day a year behind the wheel

MOTORISTS are spending an extra day a year behind the wheel because of government inaction on transport.

A typical driving commuter spends almost two weeks - about 336 hours - a year going to and from work.

When the Labor Government was elected in 1999, the same driver would spend only 12 days and 17 hours in the car every year for the same trip.

Tell us about your traffic nightmares below

Peak-hour average speeds have fallen dramatically in the past decade, while the Bracks and Brumby governments have been in office.

The average speed in morning peak has fallen from 37.5km/h in 1999-2000 to 34.8km/h in 2007-08.

In the afternoon, it's down from 41.4km/h to 37km/h.

The Government yesterday refused to confirm details of the transport plan revealed in yesterday's Herald Sun, except that two extra lanes would be squeezed on to the West Gate Bridge.

The bridge's lanes will be 40cm narrower than the current 3.5m width, and the emergency lane will make way for moving traffic.

Roads Minister Tim Pallas said a previous plan to introduce reversible lanes had been dumped. "(This) is better, it's safer and less costly," he said.

The $240 million project will strengthen the bridge's outer edges and install suicide prevention barriers.

Mr Pallas said the capacity of the road, which carries 160,000 vehicles a day, would increase by 50 per cent.

"This is a medium-term solution, and additional capacity will need to be built into our east-west movements," he said. "I'm not going to confirm or deny any aspects of what might be in the transport plan."

But Mr Pallas hinted that the plan, to be released next week, would include some form of east-west road.

"Melbourne has an unsustainable reliance, into the long term, on the West Gate Bridge," he said.

A road tunnel assisting the movement of freight out of the ports area is likely to be included in the package.

Transport insiders have tipped that the complete tunnel, linking with the Eastern Freeway as suggested by Sir Rod Eddington, will not be on the immediate agenda.

The Victorian Employers' Chamber of Commerce and Industry said any delays were putting off the inevitable.

These projects included an underground rail from Caulfield to Footscray and the removal of level crossings.

VECCI has also called for the Frankston Bypass, which the Government has already confirmed, and the northeast connector from Greensborough to Ringwood.

Plans to narrow the lanes on the West Gate were attacked yesterday by Opposition transport spokesman Terry Mulder. "What a load of hogwash," he said.

The Government needed to build a new road linking the east and west to ease congestion rather than attempt to cram more motorists on to the West Gate Bridge.

"It would appear the east-west connection has been taken off the agenda so around about a million-plus people living in the eastern suburbs are now stuck with a car park," he said.

Court systems 'hampering right to know'

The public's fundamental right to know is being threatened by inconsistent and unnecessary procedures in many of Australia's courts, a new report has found.

A coalition of major media organisations has repeatedly voiced frustration at being denied court documents or blocked from reporting on court cases by vague and indefinite suppression orders.

The organisation, Australia's Right to Know (ARK), released its most recent publication: The Review of Suppression Orders and Access to Court Documents in Australia.

ARK, representing 12 media organisations, canvassed the views of court reporters, media lawyers, court registrars and public information officers in its 121-page report.

News Ltd chairman John Hartigan accused the legal system as being part of the problem.

"The judiciary is often critical of media reports of court proceedings," he said.

"But the issue is that reporters are being hampered in getting quick and accurate information from some courts."

Journalists are routinely denied evidence tendered in court even though state and federal laws deem the information to be in the public domain, the report's author Prue Innes said.

"There are huge interstate variations. We might only guess why this might be but we're unable to say."

Various laws already exist to protect the identity of witnesses, including sex-abuse victims, children and undercover police officers.

But legal teams on both sides apply for suppression orders for many other reasons so as not to prejudice current or future trials.

The number of suppression orders made in Australia grew from 607 in 2006 to 678 in 2007.

However, the lack of a formal register of the orders suggests the actual figures could be much higher, Ms Innes said.

ARK said according to the NSW judicial system, only nine orders were made in the first half of 2008, and all of them came out of the Supreme Court.

"There were doubtless others made but as statistics are not kept the picture is incomplete," the report said.

The majority of orders had no sunset clause and many were so vague that media organisations were limited in what they could write, it said.

The ARK report recommends suppression orders be clear, specific and with no wider scope than necessary.

Whenever possible orders should include a sunset clause so they expire automatically or should otherwise state why the order should be indefinite.

Courts that do not have a public notification system for suppression orders should establish one.

On the issue of media obtaining court exhibits, the report recommends "courts adopt a procedure based on a presumption of access" so journalists receive the requested documents promptly.

"It's not a lot of use getting stuff days or weeks out from the event," Ms Innes said.

The report also recommends trialling the use of television cameras in court cases and the use voice recorders by journalists to assist with accurate reporting.

No laws exist to prohibit such devices leaving the decision to the judge.

The ABC's managing director Mark Scott said it was time to step out of the dark ages.

"It's absurdly old-fashioned that we still have to rely on artists' sketches of defendants, and scrum for images outside court," he said.

Aussie retail staff among top thieves

Australian retail staff have the world's greatest propensity for theft from their employer, costing the industry almost $3 billion, a survey finds.

The second annual Global Retail Theft Barometer found Australian retailers experienced the world's highest rate of employee theft and fraud and that the illegal activity cost the sector almost $3 billion over the past 12 months.

The cost of employee theft - or "shrinkage loss" - as it is termed in the industry, is usually passed on to consumers.

The survey estimated that the shortfall cost each Australian household almost $426, the equivalent of two weeks of grocery shopping for the average household.

The study was prepared by the Centre for Retail Research, England and was published on Tuesday by Checkpoint Systems Inc, a supplier of radio-frequency electronic article surveillance systems to prevent stock loss.

Checkpoint managing director Mark Gentle said Australian retailers rarely addressed internal theft despite investing heavily in different security systems to prevent stock loss from external sources.

"Australia is sophisticated in its approach to shrinkage and a lot of work has gone on aimed at external theft," Mr Gentle said.

"This has reduced customer shop lifting by 2.05 per cent compared to last year, now the challenge is what do we do with internal theft."

Mr Gentle said the cost of retail shrinkage was borne by consumers.

"Whilst shrink is a serious threat to retailers' bottom lines, the hidden tax on consumers is an additional unfair hit, especially as they are already dealing with the strain of tightening household budgets during the economic downturn."

The study found that employee were surprisingly consistent in their choice of goods to thieve, regardless of geographic region.

They favoured razor blades, shaving products, cosmetics, face creams, perfumes, alcohol, fresh meat/expensive foodstuffs, infant formula, CDs and DVDs, fashion, electronic games, cellular phones and watches.

Retailers estimated that, on average, they lost between two and five per cent of the value of new product lines to theft.

Popular products such as Harry Potter books, electronic games and recent DVDs experienced loss levels of up to eight per cent, causing supply shortages.

The theft survey was based on data from a confidential surveys of 920 large retailers worldwide, with combined sales of $US814 billion ($A1.22 trillion).

money.ninemsn 11 Nov 2008

Technically, the statement above (Aussie retail staff among top thieves) by the mass media is deliberately misleading (false).

Corporate Crime is Australia's largest financial burden. The problem generally is that what makes light in the mass media, is only a fraction of what is going on behind closed doors.

Examples of this are as follows are only a small part of the bigger picture.

Christopher Skase (Quintex) > $1,000,000,000
Richard Pratt > $750,000,000
Alan Bond > $1,000,000,000
Telstra > $10,000,000 per annum
Rene Rivkin > $50,000,000
Henry Kaye (Eugene Kukuy) > $30,000,000
Steve Vizard $3,000,000

The LARGEST problem is that the court systems supports these types of crimes, and as put by the ABC's 7:30 Report : Alan Bond walks free. A quote taken from ketupa.net/bond.htm states it how it is : "Just one fraud committed by businessman Alan Bond was worth the same amount as every single household burglary committed in Australia over 18 months."

With ALL of the above mentioned individuals, they are SET FREE by the Australian court system.

They are only the people who take the wrap. Behind them there are others that help. If these matters were to be taken seriously, then the people behind them would be exposed, i.e. lawmakers, politicians, business executives.

Teen dead after wild Adelaide brawl

A teenage boy fatally stabbed in a wild brawl in central Adelaide was set upon by two gangs of youths, a witness says.

Another youth is in a critical condition after the brawl involving between 12 to 15 teenage boys, all of African appearance, erupted near the corner of Grenfell Street and St James Place about 3.30pm (CDT) yesterday.

"One of the teenagers has died and one is in a critical condition at the Royal Adelaide Hospital," South Australia Police spokesman Senior Constable Mick Turnbull said.

With many of the youths armed with knives the brawl spilled out across Grenfell Street.

"The fight has proceeded across the road, outside the Fleet Street newsagency (in Grenfell Street) and two teenage boys have been stabbed as a result of the fight involving a group of teenage boys," he told AAP.

A witness, who did not wish to be named, said two large groups of youths chased a boy across the road to the newsagency.

"Soon as they saw the single guy, out came knives, off came belts, and they went for him," one said.

Witnesses at the scene told reporters the fight involved a group of Sudanese youths.

An overseas student said she was inside the newsagency with her elderly parents on their first trip to Australia as the brawl erupted.

"It was terrible. This should not happen in Adelaide," the unnamed woman told News Limited.

"They (her parents) should not see this in Adelaide.

"It's very frightening. Thanks to God they (her parents) were not stabbed."

A man who administered CPR on a wounded boy, believed to be 14 years old, said the scene was chaotic.

"I came around the corner and saw a group of youths running," the unnamed man told News Ltd.

"I don't know where (on his body) he was stabbed, I was doing CPR while I was on the phone calling for help and other people were helping."

A bicycle courier said he used his shirt to stem the flow of blood from one of the wounded boys.

Blood stained the footpath and a window outside the shop, while magazine racks inside were upturned, witnesses said.

Major crimes Detective Inspector Doug Barr called for witnesses to contact police.

"One person has been arrested and is in custody, however, their connection with this incident is sketchy," he told reporters.

"The investigation is still in the very early stages and I'm unable to provide further details about that."

Traffic in central Adelaide was in gridlock for the afternoon peak as major crimes detectives closed the affected section of Grenfell Street to examine the scene.

Grenfell Street did not reopen until about 7pm.

Crimestoppers - Retail theft

The Police have recently aired a commercial on National Television about retail theft.

In the commercial they mention that people (singular or in gangs) steal from retailers to the tune of millions of dollars per year.

They also mention that as a result of the thefts, the retailers lost profit is paid for by higher prices of the products in the store, by the community.

Therefore the retailers are NOT inconvenienced in ANY way whatsoever.

Whilst there is no doubt that reducing this type of crime is of benefit to everyone, generally BIG BUSINESS DOES NOT PAY FOR IT. The large retailers, are owned by a few multinationals in Australia.

In a recent matter ASIC (Australian Securities and Investments Commission) was notified of a fraud that involved the theft of a large some of monies ($ MILLIONS per annum) by an Australian Telco from its workers, to which ASIC responded (to wipe away any involvement) that it is a contractual matter.

Generally, corporate fraud is supported in Australia, if you're part of the 'gang'.
This 'myth' that the workers have rights, is exactly that, a MYTH.

Billions for the Bankers - Debts to the people.

The current recession is an orchestrated event, staged by the US BANKERS, as previously done in the 30's.

The general mass media, does not write about the wealth and ownership, of the oldest banking family in the world, the Rothschilds who by the 1850's had control of approx. 50% of the worlds wealth.

The US FEDERAL RESERVE is a private entity, that lends money to the government, that makes the people in debt to pay for it. This type of transaction in it's most basic form is fraudulent, and criminal.

If any US President tries to do anything about it, they get SHOT. What usually works for the people is the 'crazed gun man' story.

DHS failed to act on abuse claims

Child protection authorities failed to act for more than a year as a brother and sister in Victoria allegedly suffered daily abuse from a stepfather whose cruelty extended to assaulting the boy's genitals with pliers.

Nine News can reveal Victoria's Department of Human Services was notified of the alleged abuse — which also included beatings with a cricket bat and steel capped boots — at least a dozen times, but failed to act.

Horrified police believe it was only the persistence of teachers that saved the lives of a seven-year-old girl and eight-year-old boy — who cannot be identified for legal reasons — from their abusive stepfather.

Worried school staff first noticed their injuries in September last year. Despite contacting Human Services at least 12 times, they claim their concerns fell on deaf ears.

"It's as if we weren't being heard, as if no one would believe us," one teacher said, speaking anonymously.

As new injuries surfaced, the brother and sister became more withdrawn and their explanations less convincing.

"The things he would say like, 'I fell out of bed' or 'I fell down the stair' or 'I corked my leg' … All of these things as a mother and a teacher for many years, they just didn't add up," the teacher said.

It took more than a year for Human Services to remove the children from the family home.

When they were finally taken into care earlier this month, their bodies were covered in paint, apparently to hide their injuries.

Nine News understands that when doctors examined the girl they found 41 bruises and broken ribs; her brother had 30 bruises, a fractured femur, broken nose, scars on his head and a missing tooth.

Police say the boy also had two operations on his genitals, after his stepfather allegedly assaulted him using pliers.

"I was disgusted. My heart just went to these little children and how ever many other children in the state that it's happening to," the teacher said.

"To think that it has taken so long and what those children have suffered, when if [Human Services] had believed us earlier or had moved on this case earlier, none of these things or very few of these things would have happened to these children."

The Australian Childhood Foundation's Joe Tucci said that what Human Services regards as abuse was out of sync with community standards.

"I don't believe that they act early enough or strongly enough," Dr Tucci said. "I think there's an ideology that still prevails in child protection, which is to keep the family together no matter the cost to the kids.

"I think this is a situation where parents rights have taken precedence over children's rights."

Nine News today contacted DHS about this story. Nine News hopes to bring you their response tomorrow night.

Vic police probed in sex, drugs report

Victorian police have been linked to the operation of an illegal brothel and to corruption involving street prostitutes and drug dealers, a new report says.

The report was written by former Judge David Jones in his role as the special investigations monitor overseeing the Office of Police Integrity (OPI).

The report was tabled on Thursday in the Victorian parliament.

Fairfax newspapers said the report revealed the OPI was investigating allegations including "the theft of goods and controlled drugs from known sex workers, assaults of sex workers and criminal or improper associations with drug dealers, drug users and sex workers".

The allegations also included "the ownership and management of an unlicensed brothel" by police.

The police station involved in the allegations was not named but Fairfax said the small number of police under investigation have worked in the St Kilda area.

One officer has resigned and another has been transferred to a different region.

An 18-month OPI and Victoria Police investigation suggests a few officers may have had free sex with street prostitutes at a hotel and other Melbourne locations, one long-serving officer was part of plans to run a brothel with a criminal, and two officers - one still serving - had long-term sexual relationships with street prostitutes.

There are also claims a policeman raped a street prostitute with a baton and another travelled to Sydney and took illicit drugs with a transvestite.

The revelations have renewed calls for the establishment of safe houses for sex workers in St Kilda, to eliminate corrupt activity between street workers and police.

This is NOTHING NEW. This has been well known for quite some time.

Someone MUST be uncomfortable to somebody else in order for this to come out.

In any event what consequences, if ANY will arise from this?

There are other examples of fraud being committed, and NOTHING is done.

Donut King - Not so sweet

Here is an example where less is better.

Not by choice, but rather the company cutting costs. This move is usually undertaken by accountants.

In an example where IBM-GSA cut costs by ordering a lesser quality coffee for staff, and using smaller cups (in order to save time drinking), the accountants were able to save a couple of million.

When a company this large goes to that extent, you know they're in trouble.

A teaspoon of sugar is supposed to be 4 grams. In this example the weights should show 24 grams for six satchels of sugar.

In this example D.K is saving 20% of the cost of their sugar that YOU pay for.

At the end of the day it's not about anything else, except MAXIMISING PROFITS, at YOUR EXPENSE (in this case less sugar for you IS better)
.

You cannot do a class action law suit, rather you have to take the matter yourself. Although this example is menial, it is an indication of how tight the law is, so other (larger) corporate crimes cannot be litigated.

Australia's legal system has been closed off better than the initial Anglo-American colony, and is dictated, as in the case of the U.S, by masonic rule.

It's stupidity to cram 8 in car: police

Paramedics battled to find all the injured after a car carrying eight people and with a learner driver at the wheel hit a pole in a smash Melbourne police have labelled "sheer stupidity".

Ambulance officers found two people ejected from the vehicle and, eventually, two more who just "sort of walked up towards them," paramedic Phillip Campbell said.

Police said it was a miracle all the young people, aged between 18 and 25, emerged alive from the car.

Eight ambulances attended the chaotic scene after the Mitsubishi Lancer coupe veered off the Princes Highway at Clayton and jumped a wide median strip before smashing into the pole, about 12.40am (AEDT) Wednesday. (In one of the earlier version of this story, it was mentioned that the people involved are Sudanese, why did not this appear in this version. SAY IT HOW IT IS !! )

While police at the scene branded the act of stuffing eight people into a two-door car "sheer stupidity", Victoria Police Commissioner Christine Nixon said the six men and two women were not breaking the law as long as all the seat belts were being used.

"The driver could be charged with careless driving or a range of other things, but just simply if they were driving along and had that many people in the car, it isn't an offence and that's the law," she told Fairfax Radio.

A policewoman was recruited to drive an ambulance to hospital while ambulance officers worked to save the life of the young female learner driver.

The injured were taken to four different hospitals, with three in a critical condition.

Police said the driver took the full impact of the smash when the car slammed into a pole, blacking out the area.

Sergeant Brad Peters, of the Major Collision Investigation Unit, said he was dumbfounded that eight people would cram into such a small car.

"It is just such sheer stupidity and we're very lucky that at this stage no one's died," Sgt Peters told reporters at the scene.

On Tuesday the Transport Accident Commission and Premier John Brumby launched the latest ads aimed at young drivers.

"It is hugely disappointing given the resources that the Victoria Police and the state government throw at road safety and reduction of road trauma," Sgt Peters said.

One resident, John Delnigro, who rushed to help said he pulled one passenger out and checked his pulse while others in the back seat called for help.

"It was pretty chaotic - two bodies were already thrown out of the vehicle and others were trapped," he said.

"I pulled one out and checked his pulse while others were screaming in the back of the car to pull them out.

"When the first paramedics arrived at the scene, all the power had been lost to the area so there was no light so they had great difficulty in just seeing the extent of the damage, and also finding patients was quite difficult."
