JB Hi-Fi Rip Off Merchants?

The retail business in Australia is pretty simple or at the least one would think so.

You import something (as Australia for all intents and purposes doesn’t ‘make’ anything anymore except an excellent clown show at the expense of Aussie taxpayers) put a markup on it that is reasonable to afford profit and running costs.

What’s not OK is to sell old stock at a rip-off price as if that object was to be bought at the (higher) price of a newer model with a higher markup, as it’s accepted by the petrochemical giants.

In this snapshot sample from early April 2026, JB Hi-Fi is selling a current model (released Aug 2025) Google Pixel 10 Pro XL (6.8“ screen) with 265GB of storage for $1597, whereas they are also selling a two generation old, released Oct 2023, Google Pixel 8 Pro (6.7“ screen) with only 128GB for $1687, where simple maths will tell you that it’s $90 more than a newer model with double the storage.

While the nomenclature, "Pro XL" v "Pro" it's essentially the same phone size albeit the upgrade version.

What’s worse is that this sort of action hasn’t caught the eye of the authorities?

Well it looks like the place is still a “lucky country”, (side fact - at law Australia is still a colony) but for whom?

Do your due diligence before spending your hard earned cash (unless you're a tradie in the building industry and you're ripping off customers), as some retailers to not act conscionably.

PLEASE NOTE:

What corporations do, is that IF they're caught out and going to be taken to court, meaning the matter is accepted by the legal system, i.e. a filing is made, then they settle out of court (that way the matter is not listed for a hearing) where if you are to receive 'compensation' then they shut you up by 'forcing' you to sign their NDA or you will not get compensated.

This is how fraud and corruption is kept out of the public eye in this "lucky country".

NEVER accept that this nation isn't rife with corruption.

It's highly dependent on it.
