Road rage bashing caught on camera

A birthday celebration turned into a terrifying ordeal for a Victorian couple involved in a road rage attack — and the whole event was captured on film.

Rachel Stockdale said she and her husband Brad were driving through a roundabout in Melbourne's north-west when another car cut in front of them and almost caused a vehicle collision.

She began filming on her digital camera after the other car came to an abrupt stop a short distance down the road, forcing her and Mr Stockdale to pull over.

Video footage shows the other driver get out of their car and lunge at Mr Stockdale while his wife screams in the background.

"Go away … go away … you're going to jail for this," Mrs Stockdale yells.

Blood can be seen gushing from the side of Mr Stockdale's head.

"I was holding him back and he was trying to reach for my face and he's got me on [my right] side and he … punched me in the temples as well," Mr Stockdale said on the TODAY show.

Mrs Stockdale was also attacked as the other driver attempted to yank the camera out of her hands.

"I wasn't going to stop filming for anything and that's what made the guy really go for me," Mrs Stockdale said.

She said she was punched twice during the scuffle.

"I was shaking … the footage has a lot of screaming because I didn't know what to do," Mrs Stockdale said.

"I couldn't really help my husband physically because [the other driver's] whole family was on him at that point."

The confrontation ended when the drivers of passing cars flagged down by Mrs Stockdale intervened.

Doctors said the couple, from St Albans in Victoria's south, suffered concussion, cuts, bruises and wrist pain.

Mr Stockdale did not state the date the incident occurred but said that he and his wife were on their way to a dinner to celebrate his 30th birthday at the time.

Police were immediately informed of the incident but no charges have been laid.

Victorian Minister Insults the Public

The current Minister for Water in Victoria, has insulted the Victorian population by telling them to "GROW UP" with respect to the usage of water.

He went on further to say that it is important for future generations for the Victorians to save water. The government currently has a "target 155" campaign which urges people to use no more than 155 litres of water per person per day.

A Target which the Government understand is UNOBTAINABLE.

An evaporative water cooling system which is installed in the majority of Victorian households consumes between 20 - 70 litres of water PER HOUR.

Since the privatisation (Money for Mates) of Melbourne's water to companies that ONLY MANAGE but do not improve on infrastructure, as a result has reduced Melbourne's water supply to critical levels, YET the government still has done NOTHING for over 25 years.

They are only talking about Water Desalination plants.

Water tanks are sold at great cost to the consumer, and the water bill is increased as a result.

During each decade of drought, water tanks were FORBIDDEN to be installed, as this would detract funds from the governments pockets.

Child Abuser - Reported

For obvious reasons, the identity of this person has been concealed to protect him, and his offspring.

This person is a reported child abuser who would bash his child in fits of rage and anger to an extent that would horrify most people.

This person's wife would witness the abuse and say NOTHING.

He has been reported to the Police yet NOTHING is done.

Such is the system that is supposed to protect our children.

Sniffer dogs 'panicked' overdose victim

Extreme heat would have contributed to the death of a teenager after she swallowed illicit drugs out of panic at seeing police sniffer dogs at Perth's Big Day Out festival, police say.

Gemma Thoms, 17, was with friends when she saw the sniffer dogs shortly before she entered the popular music event at the Claremont Showgrounds on Sunday.

The sight of the dogs caused her to panic, her friends allegedly told police, leading her to swallow an unknown quantity of a drug they believe was ecstasy.

But police on Monday said the girl was dropped off at the showgrounds, which meant she would not have been subject to sniffer dog and police searches carried out at the Showgrounds train station.

"There were a whole pile of people. She entered the venue. It was all too much for her. About an hour later she just collapsed," a police spokeswoman told AAP on Tuesday.

She added that the extreme heat would have contributed to Ms Thoms collapsing.

"If you don't get enough fluids into you, your body just shuts down."

Ms Thoms was given first aid before being taken to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, where she died.

Friends of the Perth teenager have posted online tributes to her on Facebook.

"RIP our beautiful Geri, your adventurous streak was what made you, but it got the better of you," friend Bree Fazioli wrote.

"Beautiful little gemmie RIP, i will miss you forever," a post from Fiona McLuckie read.

An autopsy has yet to be conducted to confirm the exact cause of Ms Thoms' death.

NSW Greens MP Sylvia Hale said she had been warning governments for years that a tragedy like Ms Thoms' death might occur if sniffer dogs continued to be used at festivals.

She pointed to a 2006 NSW Ombudsman report that concluded the dogs were ineffective.

"That report concluded that not only were they ineffective, but they are likely to result in harm when young people panic and swallow drugs and this appears to have happened in Western Australia," she told AAP.

Big Day Out concerts were not venues "where you catch the Mr Bigs of drug dealing", Ms Hale said.

"Predominantly you get people carrying small quantities for personal use," she said.

"It's always young people being targeted. You think cocaine is just confined to young people? I don't think so."

Thorpe denies gay rumours

Ian Thorpe has again been forced to deny rumours he is gay after celebrity blogger Perez Hilton 'outed him' on his website.

Hilton, who is himself a homosexual, raised speculation overnight that Thorpe is in a relationship with his long-term Brazilian flatmate and former training partner Daniel Mendes.

The five-time Olympic gold medallist was recently photographed holidaying with Mendes in Brazil after the pair had spent Christmas with Thorpe's family, Hilton said.

Several other Australian and international gossip websites also covered the rumours.

But Thorpe has hit back at the speculation about his sexuality, saying he is merely good friends with Mendes.

"I find this kind of inaccurate speculation tiresome and I am annoyed by the hurt it has caused those closest to me," Thorpe said in the statement.

"I am still friends with many of the people I competed and trained with during my swimming career.

"Daniel is one such good friend whom I have known for many years."

Thorpe's former coach Tracey Menzies, who introduced Mendes to him, has backed up the swimming star's statement.

"There's no relationship to my knowledge, they're just good mates," the Daily Telegraph quoted Menzies as saying.

Canadian mum guilty of killing daughter

A mother in easternmost Canada pleaded guilty on Friday to murdering her only child in a twisted bid to save her relationship with a boyfriend, a court official said.

Penny Boudreau, 34, was sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole for 20 years for strangling her 12-year-old daughter Karissa after her boyfriend had given her an ultimatum: Karissa or him.

The Supreme Court of Nova Scotia heard she drove Karissa to a remote spot near the town of Bridgewater in January 2008 and told her to get out of the car.

They argued and Penny tackled Karissa to the ground, pinned her with her knees, wrapped twine around her neck and strangled her.

"Karissa said: 'Mummy, don't'," prosecutor Paul Scovil told the court, as relatives sobbed, according to local media.

Boudreau then drove to nearby LaHave River and rolled her daughter's lifeless body down to the river bank, later discarding some of Karissa's clothes in a public garbage can.

In a bid to conceal her crime Boudreau reported her daughter missing, appearing two days later on television to plead for her to come home before Karissa's frozen body was discovered by searchers.

Boudreau was arrested for the murder in June 2008.

Schoolboys accused of sex acts with girl

Seven youths, some in school uniform, subjected a 13-year-old girl to sex acts, one of which was filmed and sent to a mate, a Sydney judge has been told.

The girl, who felt threatened and intimidated, performed oral sex on five of the youths during her hours-long ordeal at two isolated toilet blocks and on a building rooftop in Sydney.

During one incident, she was told, "Just smile like you're enjoying it," while one youth later gave her his phone number and asked her to call him.

At times, youths yelled at their mates to "hurry up, it's taking too long" and "your turn's up".

Four of the teenagers, who were aged 15 and 16 at the time and cannot be named, faced a sentencing hearing in the NSW District Court on Thursday.

Three have pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated sexual intercourse with a girl under 14, and the fourth has admitted two such offences.

A fifth youth, referred to as KD, will be sentenced separately, a sixth is before the Children's Court, and no information was available on the seventh, who is referred to as "an unnamed male" in the agreed facts.

The offences took place in July 2007, at two different toilet blocks in Yagoona parks and later on the rooftop of a Bankstown building.

The facts said the girl agreed to meet KD at the Bankstown Bus Depot on that day, after having first met him days earlier at a shopping centre.

He arrived in full school uniform and, to her surprise, was accompanied by two other youths, one similarly dressed and the other in partial uniform.

The trio caught the train to Yagoona railway station, where the girl was led to a public female toilet block in a park, where four other males were seated outside.

Comments such as "you're hot" were made to her, before KD asked "would you give my friends head jobs?".

When she said no, he continued to question her, resulting in her feeling "threatened and intimidated" and saying "yeah whatever".

She went into a cubicle with one youth, with whom she had oral sex, after which another teenager said "I'm going to root her" before penetrating her and causing pain.

After they were disturbed by council workers, the girl was surrounded and walked to another toilet block in a nearby park where more oral sex took place, as well as digital penetration.

Later, at a building rooftop in Bankstown, another youth arrived and she was told to give him "a head job".

She said: "I don't want to. I've had enough. I've had to give everyone head jobs today.*"

She eventually complied "feeling angry that she was being forced to do something she didn't want to".

That evening, the girl was told video footage of her performing oral sex on one youth had been sent to another male.

In sentencing submissions, lawyers for the four referred to their immaturity, lack of sex education, good family backgrounds and contrition.

One of the four boys, who was only at the rooftop, had not known about what happened earlier and had "taken the opportunity" to engage in his first sexual encounter, Judge Richard Cogswell was told.

He adjourned submissions to February 20.

Child 'thrown from Melbourne bridge'

A four-year-old girl allegedly thrown from Melbourne's West Gate Bridge has died.

A Royal Children's Hospital spokeswoman said the girl died at 1.35pm (AEDT) today.

Police say a 36-year-old Hawthorn man has been charged with murder and will face the Melbourne Magistrates' Court later today.

The girl was rescued from the Yarra River this morning after she was allegedly thrown over the West Gate Bridge.

Water police reached the injured girl in the Yarra River within 10 minutes of the fall.

She was treated by paramedics before being airlifted to the Royal Children's Hospital in a critical condition, but later died.

The 36-year-old Hawthorn man was spotted with a Landcruiser and two children near the Federal Court in central Melbourne about 10.30am.

He was taken into custody and interviewed by police before being charged with one count of murder.

The girl's mother had been informed of the situation, Detective Inspector Clark said.

Det Insp Clark said the incident was "particularly distressing" for both family members and witnesses.

"This is a dreadful set of circumstances and often you think you've seen it all but you haven't," he said.

The general purpose of this blog was not to explore the child custody disputes / family law rulings, but the horrific nature of this crime has to be mentioned, together with the rulings and attitudes of the Law Makers which result in these extreme deeds.

Whilst there are NO EXCUSES, in the majority of cases where the 'unstable' male does a deed of desperation in an 'unfit' moment, is usually due to a custody dispute where the male is second rate.

The Great Australian Water Fraud

Recent geological studies have shown that there are approximately 5,000 Artesian wells in Australia.

The Artesian wells are at an approximate depth of 2,000m to 5,000m below the surface, and cover an approximate area of 2/3 of Australia.

Of the 5,000 wells there are an approximate 2,000 that are capped, i.e. the flow of water is controlled, and the rest of the 3,000, the water goes to waste.

The approximate water supply beneath the ground is estimated at 1,500 years.

When the water supply was in government hands, it was available cheaply and plentifully, even though Australia is constantly in a 'drought'.

Since the introduction of global policies to 'privatise' (read 'Money for Mates' deals) all utilities
there has been NO financial outlay to expand water catchment areas, and build infrastructure.

The 'privatised' water companies only collect money for a service that was already in place.

The governments current 'advertisements' show that water desalination plants 'will' be built, but what is NOT said that it will be 'outsourced' and as a result charged dearly at the tap to the user.

It is in the governments policies to charge exorbitant amounts for services that were previously moderately priced.

$2b welfare crisis looms

Welfare payouts are set to explode by up to $2 billion as the economic crisis pushes more people onto the dole.

Official forecasts say the Rudd Government faces a $1 billion blowout as unemployment moves up to 5.75 percent but analysis by the Herald Sun reveals that sum will double as the jobless rate hits 6.7 percent by the end of the year.

That translates into 250,000 jobs lost as Mr Rudd yesterday warned of a "rising tide of unemployment".

The finding comes as Labor's new job placement system — which softens penalties for those missing job interviews and gives priority to long-term unemployed over those newly sacked — comes into operation.

The system was developed when a booming economy was absorbing skilled workers and those considered job-ready will only get basic help for the first three months of unemployment.

Mutual obligation rules that enforce welfare payment restrictions for missing interviews or appointments will be lifted.

Welfare agencies are pushing for a $30-a-week NewStart boost to help workers who lose their jobs and will sit down with Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard today to discuss relief measures.

A report by Access Economics, commissioned by the Australian Council of Social Service, found welfare groups were forced to turn away 80,000 seeking help in 2007-08.

The report also found that unemployment will rise to 6.7 per cent in 2009-10, and 7 per cent in 2010-11.
